Pente Poets last week celebrated the launch of their poetry trail throughout the Sunshine Coast Hinterland which provides a unique way to explore and visit the region.
Creative sculptures accompanied by original poetry from locally renowned artists are dotted along trails in Maleny, Montville and Kenilworth.
Visitors have the opportunity to download an app on their devices and listen to the poems read aloud by the poets at Maleny and Montville.
The poetry trail was completed in four stages over three years through a number of funding grants, including the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast community grants program.
Pente Poets’ Judith Bandidt said the group was overwhelmed by the success of the project.
“Pente Poets was formed in 2006 through a common location, our beautiful hinterland and coast, and a shared love of poetry,” Mrs Bandidt said.
“On a driving tour of New Zealand with my husband, we found a path with a signpost and intrigued; we followed it which led us to large boulders featuring poetry and other short verse.
“I thought it would be wonderful to have that on the Sunshine Coast, and as they say the rest is history.”
Also officially launched today was Pente Poets’ second publication ‘On the Poetry Trail: Hinterland’ which contains a collection of poems written by the group’s poets.
