Year 11 student Lola Toetzke and Prep student Emely Weiler are not related but do have two things in common – both were welcomed as new students on the first day of school at St Andrew’s Anglican College, and both originate from Germany.
Emely relocated with her family from Germany in late 2016 and Lola is on a six-month exchange and staying with a host family, touched down in Australia just this week.
“I am excited to meet my teacher and my classmates, to make new friends and play at the school playground,” Emely said.
Emely is already loving the beautiful beaches, sun and blue skies, as well as many different animals she has seen at Australia Zoo and in her own backyard.¬¬
“I can’t wait to learn about writing, reading, nature and science at Prep,” she said.
Lola said she was looking forward to meeting her new peers and familiarising herself with the area and Australian lifestyle.
“I’m most excited to get to know the school; how it works and its culture,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to the experience as the school system seems very different here than in Germany.”
