Noosa Council has called a special meeting today to discuss the awarding of a tender to spend more than $15,500 per metre on a replacement boardwalk from Little Cove to the Noosa National Park entrance and its closure during construction.
Council officers recommend the tender be awarded for the 420m Park Road boardwalk design, development and construction to Hutchinson Builders for the cost of $6,593,344.
Weather permitting the project is expected to commence after Easter and be completed in October. The project has an eight month target and a condition from council it be completed by 14 December.
During construction pedestrians on the much-used walkway will need to “use alternative pathways” and the road will be reduced to one lane “during the life of the project”.
Council says the project aims to create an iconic project “developed to have minimal impact on existing vegetation, improve accessibility, widen and provide opportunity to rest and take in views, as well as provide an architectural design based on use of natural and durable materials in keeping with the Noosa Design Principles”. A separate workshop will be held with Council on 7 March to review the project.
Today’s meeting will also discuss the tenancy of the Peregian Beach Digital Hub.
Tenancies will be offered to established technology enterprises which have operated for five years or more, emerging enterprises operating for 2-5 years and co-worker memberships looking to share costs and connect with other technology enterprises.
The tender process is scheduled for released from 12 March.
The special meeting will be held at Council Chambers, Tewantin from 9am today.
