WITH the ever-increasing popularity of Noosa / Sunshine as a tourist resort, calls for courtesy patrols are naturally on the rise; and the follow-up to this is an increase in running costs for our surf clubs.
As a result, two fund-raising events supporting Noosa Surf Life Saving Club were conducted last weekend; and Friday 11am was the start.
The place was the Noosa Springs Golf Club and for an unbelievable sixteenth consecutive year it was an outstanding success.
Great weather, great hospitality and 104 players hitting off on this beautiful green.
End of play saw guests enjoying food and refreshments.
Those in attendance were gratefully acknowledged by Surf Club general manager Anton Mogg, who thanked the various business houses and fellow sporting clubs for their ongoing support. Above all the Noosa Springs Golf Club.
Sunday afternoon saw some 300 to 400 people pack into the big marque on Noosa Main Beach for a beach party.
The marque was generously donated, (yet again by Phil Jarratt and his Festival of Surf team) as a fund raising tent for the Noosa Surf Girl entrant Olivia Blight; and this was greatly appreciated.
Following a brief function to acknowledge nipper achievements of the year the party got under way.
With local acts the Dennis Sisters Band (now in big demand) and Brad Schultz setting the mood for the introduction of the main attraction, American vocalist Lisa Hunt, her performance definitely gave truth to the advertisement – Beach Party of the Year.
Backed by a superb five-piece band, after just three numbers the area in front of the stage was full of dancers, aged from early teens to the mid-sixties.
Her rendition of songs of Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield and Tina Turner were indeed something to behold.
Our host Phil Jarrett, daughter Sam and organizer Anton Mogg were over the moon. Definitely a fund raiser to remember.
