Volunteers are the backbone of Noosa

If all the volunteers stopped working Noosa would probably grind to a halt. This view raised by a volunteer last week was demonstrated when one volunteer-fuelled festival ended and another began.

As the Noosa Wine and Food Festival was wrapping up its successful weekend volunteers from the Noosa Alive Festival were out in force distributing the festival program which was hot off the presses.

This Friday volunteers will be acknowledged for their work by Noosa Council which is also highlighting their efforts through six short films made to celebrate National Volunteers Week held from 21-27 May.

Council teamed up with local film-maker Klaus Horner, who volunteered to make the short films.

A Council spokeswoman said the films highlighted the amount of work community members do.

“We have over 300 community groups in our shire,” she said.

“Many people may not realise the amount of work our local volunteers do – they run the sports clubs, tidy local bushland and look after the poor and the underprivileged.”
