Noosa Heads Year 6 student Grace Burroughs spent last year busking to raise money for refugee children in Africa and will compete again this weekend at the Noosa National Busking Championship for the same cause.
Through her school the Good Shepherd Lutheran College Grace learnt about the Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS), the overseas aid and resettlement agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia and wanted to contribute personally.
Grace’s passion for singing and performing enabled her to raise $460 by busking at the local farmers market. She was “blown away” by the generosity of the Noosa community who responded to her performance with their donations.
Her work led ALWS to invite her to be part of their “Kids who change the world” video and to become an ALWS ambassador.
Performing has also helped Grace by building her confidence.
Grace last year won second place at both the Noosa Busking Championship and The Australian National Glee Championship.
It will be a big weekend for Grace who will compete in the busking competition and celebrate her 11th birthday. Her mother Angelika said instead of having a party she has asked people to donate to refugee children. Any prize money she wins at the Noosa Busking Championship being held on Gympie Terrace, Noosaville, on Saturday 9 June she plans to donate to ALWS.
