In defence of the dishlickers

By Margaret Maccoll

Living at Peregian Beach and being a dog owner the overwhelming community response against council officers’ removal of dog water containers in the village came as no surprise to me.

It’s rare to find an outdoor café in Peregian Village without a dog lying next to it. And most of time, at least when I’ve been there, humans and dogs cohabit without a problem.

Two things stood out when I asked people on the weekend what they thought of the water bowls.

One person said too much attention was paid to the few whingers and not enough to the majority. The other was that we are quick to criticise but not to acknowledgement people who quietly do great things – like the Peregian Angel who has given dogs a drink for 10 years.
