Snapshots complete the picture

A NEW photographic project has been launched at the Original Eumundi Markets to help mark the iconic markets’ 35th birthday.
Local photographer Alain Bouvier will capture a collection of portraits of artists and designers from within the market community.
Titled ‘Market Characters – Make it, Bake it, Sew it, Grow it’, the photography project is being supported through a Regional Arts Development Fund grant through the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Alain said the images would be captured on site at the markets over the months ahead, and the stallholders he features will include a variety of talent including painters, sculptors, fashion designers, cobblers, jewellers, and street performers.
“We want to celebrate the makers and creators – the artists, designers and foodies – the personalities who make the products at Eumundi Markets that make it the iconic market that it is,” he said.
Market manager Daniel West said it was important of honor the stallholders in the Eumundi Markets’ 35th anniversary year.
“It is important to celebrate our stallholders in this milestone year, and similarly important too to help a record of the artists from a cultural heritage perspective,” he said.
Once complete, the images will be displayed in an exhibition at Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre and also via the Eumundi Markets website.
“In the longer-term, the photographic collection will ensure the Eumundi community retains a professional record of local market talent and local artisans and entrepreneurs – the people that make up what is unquestionably one of the greatest tourist attractions on the Sunshine Coast,” Daniel said.
