The Caxton Street Jazz Band presented by Noosa Heads Jazz Club with special guest Melbourne Reeds Player Jason Downes will perform on Saturday 11 May at The J Noosa.
The Caxton St Jazz Band was formed in 1977 and the band is well known for its long running stint at the famous “Jazz ‘N Jug” sessions at Brisbane’s Caxton Hotel, as well as numerous appearances at Australian Jazz Conventions and other Festivals. The band’s name stems from the location of its first venue, the Baroona Hall in Caxton St, not, as is widely thought, from its association with the Caxton Hotel.
Since concluding its 11 years at the Caxton Hotel in March 1992, the CSJB has continued to present traditional hot classic jazz in a 6-piece line-up. This group is a regular performer at various Jazz Clubs and Jazz Festivals, both in Queensland and Interstate. Band Members include South Queensland’s leading sax and clarinet player, Paul Williams, Bernice Haydock on piano and vocals, Andrew Shaw on double bass, David McCallum on drums, trombonist, banjoist and vocalist, Tom Nicolson, and master trumpeter, John Braben.
There will be music from 7.30pm to 10.30pm with dancing and a budget bar. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for guests. For more information call 54472229.
