Fitz takes all on board

By JOLENE OGLE

LOCAL personal trainer and founder of Pink Fitz, Kate Fitzpatrick, is bringing together the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and question (LGBTIQ) community through health, fitness and a whole lot of pink.
Pink Fitz is a global, online community where members of the LGBTIQ community can come together for support, advice and physical training.
Kate, who was elected to serve as Tasmania’s youngest alderman at age 19, said Pink Fitz was born after spending too many nights in bars trying to meet like-minded people.
“I realised I would much rather climb a mountain at 6am with amazing people,” she said.
Pink Fitz aims to bring together people who suffer with obesity, loneliness, depression and low self-esteem in a safe environment with meal plans, workouts, and habit creation.
“Pink Fitz is a community, a family, a place where people from anywhere in the world can come and be who they are around a positive circle of influence and can learn how to be the best version of themselves,” Kate said.
“It’s about being someone’s missing puzzle piece.”
Kate has been a vocal campaigner of gay rights for more than a decade and said the support offered by communities such as Pink Fitz was vital in the lives of people in the LGBITQ community.
“People don’t ‘come out’ once.
“It’s a daily occurrence and this can make it a bit tricky when meeting new people for many LGBITQ people.
“Using ‘friend’ and ‘they’ instead of being able to talk openly about their lives and partners can be awkward,” she said.
“Pink Fitz takes away the awkwardness, there are no judgements, no pre-conceived ideas or assumptions.
“Everyone is just there… just simply wanting to enjoy life and be their best.
“Once you are surrounded and connected with a positive and active circle of influence who also happen to have a lifestyle common ground, there is the basis of success for a happy, healthy life.”
