Bicycling Australia will stage its second annual Noosa Classic cycling event, the Gran Fondo, on Sunday, 18 August with more than 1400 riders completing in 160km, 120km or 45km courses, all showcasing the beautiful Noosa Hinterland.
Locals are encouraged to cheer the riders on as they depart from the start line in Goodwin St, Tewantin from 6.30-8am or at key spots along the courses including Gyndier Drive, Noosaville, rest stops at Heritage Railway Park, Imbil, Kin Kin Pub, Apollonian Hotel, Boreen Point and at the finish line at Read Park, Tewantin.
In addition to a breathtaking ride, the Noosa Classic Event Village will be a held adjacent to the finish line at Read Park, Tewantin from 10am-4pm with live music, gourmet food stalls, cycling exhibitor stalls, children’s activities and for the mums and dads – a bar showcasing Heads of Noosa’s best brews.
A major coup for the greater Noosa region, more than a third of riders are travelling from interstate, with many international participants and cycling groups making a multi-day to week-long holiday of it.
“With strong local and interstate attendance numbers we are expecting a great atmosphere in sunny Noosa,” Noosa Classic spokesman James Yaffa said.
