System could bring 200mm to Sunshine Coast

Forecasters are warning residents in the South East to be prepared for heavy rainfall which could potentially see up to 100-200mm fall in some parts, which may lead to minor flooding.

The Noosa River along with the Mary and Maroochy River have all been added to the flood watch area as rainfall will continue to increase from Thursday into the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology has said that parts of the Sunshine Coast could see up to 200mm of rain in the next day or so, and Queensland’s southern interior wont miss out either as a surface trough moves to combine with an upper level trough.

It is believed that showers and storms will continue to deliver heavy falls from now right through to the weekend for the Wide Bay, South East Coast and Northern River districts.

Tin Can Bay, north-east of Noosa, received 100mm of rain overnight, these falls are expected to move south to the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane over Wednesday and Thursday.
