A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to repeatedly punching a man in the head in an alcohol-fuelled attack.
Daniel Leo O’Donnell-Julin faced Noosa Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with driving without a licence in an unrelated incident, public nuisance, wilful damage and assault.
The court heard on 12 May this year, O’Donnell-Julin drank half a bottle of straight vodka at a friend’s party before heading to a licensed venue in Noosa Junction.
At about 11.30pm on the same night, O’Donnell-Julin randomly attacked a man on the street before turning on the man’s friend, who was trying to stop the attack.
The friend who was assisting the first victim was then punched in the head a number of times, chipping one of his teeth.
Security guards tried to break up the fight before the defendant fled, running through the underground car park of the Noosa Junction shopping centre where O’Donnell-Julin broke a fluorescent light.
Police Prosecutor Shane Raison said police received reports soon after of a man running through Noosa Junction naked.
Police were able to catch O’Donnell-Julin on Noosa Parade and said he appeared drunk or drug-affected, was emotional, naked and the back of his legs were covered in faecal matter.
O’Donnell-Julin’s defence lawyer said the defendant was “blind drunk” on the night in question and couldn’t recall the events.
O’Donnell-Julin, who had no previous criminal history, was fined $400 for driving without a licence, fined $1350 for both public nuisance and wilful damage charges, ordered to pay $1500 in compensation, $1343 in medical bills, and $780 to repair the broken light. He was also sentenced to six months’ jail with immediate parole.
