41-year-old Kirri Wood says fitness is the key to living stress free.

NOOSA resident Kirri Wood is one of Queensland’s most awarded female bodybuilders and the mother-of-two is on a mission to help others realise the wonders of fitness.
Lifting heavy weights at the gym and eating six meals of protein and green vegetables every day is standard for the 41-year-old, who has lived in Noosa for the past 12 years.
Kirri aimed to be as lean and as strong as possible when she started training in May 2012.
“I was always quite fit but had very poor dietary knowledge, so I decided to take the plunge and give body sculpting a go,” she said.
“After about 16 weeks of squeaky clean, regular interval eating and lifting lots of heavy weights, I hit the stage in September 2012 in Melbourne in the International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) natural figure competitor and placed second in the novice category.”
Two years later and Kirri is one of Queensland’s most successful female bodybuilders and she has competed in 12 INBA competitions and been awarded a total of 15 trophies.
This year saw Kirri’s trophy haul increase dramatically after she won her open fitness model division and 30+ fitness model in Townsville.
She’s also taken out the 30+ and 40+ age divisions at the Queensland State titles and more recently claimed the Australian champion 40+ fitness model from a pool of 17 other competitors.
Although Kirri finds clean eating and exercise a part of life, the past six months have been a struggle after she returned home from an overseas holiday with a gastrointestinal parasite.
“After many antibiotics and suffering lethargy, bloating, pains, nausea and depression, I still managed to somehow avoid severe weight loss and muscle wastage,” she said.
Kirri said her resistance to the stomach bug was due to her positive relationship with food and listening to her body.
Following her ongoing success and support from her sponsor gym SportsPower Noosaville, Kirri’s main goal now is to inspire and motivate other women and even teenagers to begin a new, active and healthy lifestyle.
“If you’re aiming to either feel better than ever, or to get that dream physique, it’s not too late and knowledge is the key,” she said.
“I really recommend anyone to get to the gym, it relieves stress and makes you feel and look better. The fitness industry is really friendly and everyone is there to help.”
