FILM critics are raving about the latest release from Hollywood star Ben Affleck in Gone Girl, which is currently screening at BCC Noosa Cinemas.
On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (played by Affleck) reports that his wife, Amy (played by Rosamund Pike), has gone missing.
Under pressure from the police and growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble.
Soon his lies, deceits and strange behaviour have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?
This film unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage.
Gone Girl was a thriller novel first by American writer Gillian Flynn (Crown Publishing Group).
The novel was published in June 2012 and the novel’s principal suspense comes from an uncertainty about the main character, Nick Dunne, and whether he is involved in the disappearance of his wife, Amy Dunne.
In several interviews, Flynn has said that she was interested in exploring the psychology and dynamics of a long-term relationship. In portraying her principal characters who are out-of-work writers, she made use of her own experience being laid off from her job as a writer for Entertainment Weekly.
Affleck gives one of the best performances of his career and the film has received rave reviews with a score of 8.6 out of 10 on IMDB.
