Long-time local loves Noosa

Born and bred Noosa local Kari Porter is delighted to once again work under the Noosa Council banner.

Although many friendships were made through amalgamation, Kari is happy to have Noosa back, and attributes the sense of community throughout Noosa as bringing about the de-amalgamation. Kari works as a Project Officer in the Transport area of Noosa Council but she began her Council career in the Town Planning section over 11 years ago.  Prior to that she spent six years working in the ski fields, including a season in Canada, and many years conveyancing in local law firms. Kari is a long-time local: her parents owned the House of Bottles in the late 70s and early 80s. During her time in Town Planning, Kari feels fortunate to have worked under the recently retired former Director of Environment and Planning, Raul Weychardt. Kari now manages projects such as the Free Holiday Buses initiative, which is on offer again over Easter (April 14-21), the Boreen Point Flexilink Service and the Council Cabs Services. “Most areas of Noosa are well serviced by public transport, so while the buses are free you can give them a go – leave the car at home and avoid the parking hassles!” Kari said. Kari also promotes alternative and sustainable transport options for council staff. “Part of my role includes encouraging staff to travel sustainably to work by walking, cycling, carpooling or catching the bus. The pathway network around the Noosa area and the end-of-trip facilities provided at the Tewantin office makes this a pretty easy task. It helps for me, living a six-minute bike ride from work and having the luxury of riding along the beautiful Noosa River.” Outside the office, Kari often walks along the local boardwalks, including the Noosa National Park. She also enjoys climbing local mountains, camping and making the most of Noosa’s community charm. “We are very blessed to live and work in such a beautiful location,” she said.
