Literary lunches on the Noosa River are back

The team at Noosaville’s The River Read is bringing best selling author Toni Jordan to Noosa for a special lunch event and book signing at local restaurant Whisky Boy on Thursday 21 April.

Guests will enjoy a delicious two course lunch and glass of wine to celebrate the launch of Toni Jordan’s latest novel, Dinner with the Schnabels. Toni is best known for her international best seller Addition, and has published several other novels.

Toni Jordan has worked as a molecular biologist, quality control chemist, TAB operator and door to door aluminium siding salesperson.

She is a Miles Franklin longlistee, twice winner of the Indie Award for Best Debut and Best Fiction, three times ABIA shortlistee and was longlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award. Toni has also been published widely in newspapers and magazines and holds a Bachelor of Science in physiology and a PhD in Creative Arts.

Toni will be sharing stories from her extensive and varied career as well as launching her latest novel, and personally signing copies – perfect gifts with Mothers Day around the corner.

Dinner With The Schnabels is the first in what will be a loose series narrated by a different member of the Schnabel family. It’s a novel about marriage, love and family, for fans of Marian Keyes, David Nicholls and Katherine Heiny. It’s escapism for realists as Toni puts it herself.

Things haven’t gone well for Simon Larsen lately. He adores his wife, Tansy, and his children, but since his business failed and he lost the family home, he can’t seem to get off the couch. Simon is permanently unemployed and permanently unshaven. His larger-than-life in-laws, the Schnabels – Tansy’s mother, sister and brother – won’t get off his case. To keep everyone happy, Simon needs to do one little job: he has a week to landscape a friend’s backyard for an important Schnabel family event. But as the week progresses, Simon is derailed by the arrival of an unexpected house guest. Then he discovers Tansy is harbouring a secret. As his world spins out of control, who can Simon really count on when the chips are down?

Life with the Schnabel family is messy, chaotic and joyful, and Dinner with the Schnabels is as heartwarming as it is outrageously funny.

The River Read has previously hosted sell out events for a number of high profile authors including Michael Robotham and Peter FitzSimons.

“To our great disappointment, a number of events last year weren’t able to go ahead, when authors weren’t able to travel due to lockdowns and border closures,” River Read co-owner Lucinda Morley said.

“This event will kick off an exciting line up of events for 2022 so stay tuned for our next announcement.”

This event is hosted by The River Read, and books will be available to purchase and be signed on the day.

Tickets are $70 and are available now through Eventbrite.
