Labor candidate opens with a bang

By JONATHON HOWARD

NOOSA Labor candidate Mark Denham has slammed the LNP Government’s decision to award Noosa only $1.6 million in the final post amalgamation costs.
His comments were made during a Labor Christmas ball in which he was officially preselected at the Noosa RACV Resort on Saturday 13 December.
The event attracted about 30 people including Shadow Minister for Women, Carers, and Communities, Senator Claire Moore.
Mr Denham, who is a local ambulance paramedic, said the ball was a great success and the culmination of a busy past few months of campaigning.
“Noosa is a great place to live and to have a function where you can get dressed to the nines, enjoy great food, company and dance the night away,” he said.
“Ladies in ball gowns, the men is suites, vests and bow ties a must.”
Mr Denham also took time to attack Minister for Local Government David Crisafulli’s post amalgamation refund, which totalled $1.6 million from a possible $22.1 million of contested funds.
“Part of my address to the gathering focused on potential damage the State Planning Development Bill, post amalgamation refund promised by the LNP and their disgraceful attempt by the LNP Government to pacify the voters of Noosa by only giving them just $1.6m,” he said.
“Noosa has been disregarded by the Newman Government, and the local MP has no voice in his own government,” he said.
Mr Denham said the Newman Government was facing an uphill battle in next year’s State Government election, likely to be called in the first half of 2015.
