Community spirit unites clubs

Peregian Beach Surf Club former president Brett Leckie (pictured with Noosa Heads Surf Club president Greg Cowie) said the closure of the Peregian Beach SLSC was a "hard pill to swallow", but was glad to have joined forces with Noosa Heads Surf Club.

THE month of June saw the Peregian Beach community left confused and saddened by the sudden closure of their Surf Life Saving Club.
Peregian Surf Club manager Martin Isherwood was given less than 24 hours notice to inform staff not to return to work.
However by September and the start of the Surf Life Saving season, in a Queensland-first, Peregian SLSC and Noosa SLSC had amalgamated “seamlessly”.
Volunteers from both clubs ensured there were no interruptions to patrols and swimmers were kept under a watchful eye.
The amalgamation was proof that while corporate red tape and funding may waiver, the community spirit reaches beyond beach boundaries.
