International folk-world-roots artist Alysha Brilla will take to the stage in The Brewery at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi on Saturday 7 January, fresh from her performances at Woodford Folk Festival.
Alysha will be joined by Brisbane favourites Cigany Weaver and Rosa Mack to complete a wonderful post-Woodford party line up of stunning music and great vibes.
A three-time Juno Award nominated artist, Alysha Brilla is a critically acclaimed Indo-Tanzanian Canadian songwriter and producer who just released her fourth album Rooted.
Her work is driven by a deep belief in music’s power to transform ourselves and our world.
Brilla’s new music draws on the influences of her unique background – blending Indian and East African sounds with a contemporary aesthetic.
She uses vinyl sampling, acoustic recordings, programming and experimentation to achieve a warm blend of retro vibes with a modern twist. Lyrically, Brilla writes about the value of love, equity and spirituality in times of global and personal turmoil.
Touring the world with her band, Alysha’s music unites audiences.
Whether sharing intimate storytelling sets or headlining festival stages of thousands with her all-star musicians, by the end of the show, Brilla always has the audience singing along and moving forward with a positive feeling in their heart.
Fusing the passion of gypsy music, the precision of classical, and the spontaneity of jazz, Cigany Weaver create a rich and vibrant atmosphere for both the heart and mind.
Front woman, Jo Davie’s soaring vocals and enchanting gentle demeanour combine with the fiery violin, dynamic guitars and driving rhythm section to create a purely acoustic group that effortlessly navigates the musical nexus between intimacy and raucousness.
2019 delivered the release of the band’s debut eponymous album received with great acclaim.
It is as likely to find Cigany Weaver packing out shows at renowned festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival and Dark Mofo, as it is to find them playing a secret gig in a jazz bar.
By drawing inspiration from the past, the sextet’s signature compositions and arrangements weave a musical tapestry, contributing a new direction to the Australian music scene.
Powerhouse vocalist Rosa Mack boasts an unforgettable performance with her seven-piece Brisbane collective. Melting soulful tones of the 60s and 70s era, their bedrock of blues, rock and soul is underpinned by the influence of musical matriarchs Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Nai Palm and Brittany Howard.
Emerging as a fresh group in late 2020, the humble beginnings of this world-class act have seen numerous sold out shows in Brisbane’s local haunts.
Delivering live performances, Rosa’s unapologetic confidence and ferocious talent gives her audience a reason to listen, leaving the beholder always wanting more.
