Council calls for information to assist Noosa dog attack investigation

Noosa Council is appealing for information from the public to help identify the owner of a dog believed to have been involved in an attack that saw a woman hospitalised last week.

Council’s Local Laws Manager, Rob Smith, said the woman was riding a bicycle on the pathway toward Jacaranda Park at Tewantin between 8.30am and 9am, Wednesday 20 September, when she was attacked by an off-leash dog.

Mr Smith said Local Laws officers were trying to identify the dog and its owner.

“The victim was understandably shaken and needed medical treatment, so she wasn’t able to get names and contact details for the owner or the person with the dog at the time,” he said.

The dog is described as a tan-coloured kelpie breed.

“We’re asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may recognise the dog or know the owner to come forward. Equally, if it’s your dog, please contact us.”

The victim of the attack suffered a serious bite wound to her ankle and was admitted to hospital for treatment.

“Noosa Council takes dog attacks very seriously and all information provided will be thoroughly investigated.”
