Plan for ‘back’ to school

A schoolbag correctly fitted to a child will help decrease pressure on the spine and improve posture.

ARE your children’s backpacks ready for school? The team at Noosa Chiropractic is offering a Back to School deal where your child’s posture and schoolbag can be assessed.
Noosa Chiropractic said a schoolbag that was correctly fitted to a child would help decrease pressure on the spine and improve posture.
An ideal schoolbag should offer even weight distribution over both shoulders, not exceed the width of the chest, not be any more than 10 per cent of the child’s weight and the top of the bag should be positioned no lower than shoulder height and no lower than the hollow of the lower back.
Children should be encouraged to avoid carrying extra books and if a child appears to push their head forward as they walk, the bag is too heavy.
When choosing a schoolbag, it is best to select one with a padded and stiff surface where the bag contacts the child’s back and one with a waist strap will help distribute the weight evenly onto the hips.
It is advised to never use just one strap of the bag, as it puts uneven pressure on the spine, hips, neck and shoulders.
If you’re worried about your child’s posture or schoolbag, Noosa Chiropractic is offering a Back to School deal that includes a complimentary consultation, posture check, foot scan, schoolbag assessment and Back to School Basics pack.
