Jail sister speaks out

Debbie Kilroy, a former prisoner, now lawyer and founder of Sisters Inside, will be the guest speaker at the Zonta Noosa International Women’s Day breakfast on 8 March.
Debbie founded Sisters Inside, an independent community organisation based in Brisbane that advocates for the human rights of criminalised women and girls, after serving six years for drug trafficking.
Since her release, Debbie has gained a degree in social work and law, becoming the first person convicted of serious criminal offences to be admitted to practice law in Australia.
Karyn Wood from ABC Radio will host the breakfast and all funds raised will be used for Zonta Noosa local community projects including educational bursaries that have helped women achieve their educational goals and pursue careers in fields which have been traditionally dominated by men.
Zonta Noosa offers three bursaries through the University of the Sunshine Coast as well as an aviation bursary for a local school in Noosa.
The International Women’s Day breakfast will be held on Sunday 8 March at the Noosa Springs Spa and Golf Resort from 9am.
Tickets are $35 per person and are available from Carole Tretheway Design, Arcadia Walk, Noosa Junction, or phone 5447 3255.
