Against the odds

By BRUCE BLAKEMORE

THE four-person challenge final at Noosa Table Tennis was always going to be decided by results that were against theoretical predictions.
The first was Alan’s comeback win over Oscar – after being two sets down he fought his way back gallantly to secure a crucial five setter to give the Gamblers an all important early advantage.
The second – and most exciting – was the high-octane battle between Tony and game-favourite Steve. The age defying ability of Tony to counter Steve’s forehand attack was the catalyst for a five-set last-point victory for Tony that would ultimately push the Gamblers into safe territory.
The memories of almost losing the semis have long faded and they can now enjoy hoisting the very first trophies at our new venue.
Gamblers (R. Gore, T. Latimer, S. Campbell, A. Lawson ) d the Bandits (B. Blakemore, S. Gardner, O. Estraviz, S. Lidden) 8/4.
Best individual division 1: Kye McDonald.
Best individual division 2: Jonas Canpbell.
Our new competition starts 8 April and will be a singles format off scratch in three grades. Any interested players should contact the club as soon as possible.
The club is now based at the Noosa Leisure Centre at Wallace Park. Competition is on Wednesday nights from 7pm, social and practice on Sundays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. and social play is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am until noon.
Please call 5474 5526 for any further information or ‘like’ the club on Facebook.
