Grammar holds Dragons spell-bound

Under leaden skies the Eumundi Dragons U12s played their postponed clash with the Sunshine Coast Grammar School U12s team on Thursday 8 May.
This was a match that was previously scheduled to be played at Maleny ( Witta ) on 3 May.
The fields looked magnificent and the boys played under the enthusiatic gaze of parents, supporters and a group of “grey nomads” who had camped next to the clubhouse and within full view of the playing pitch.
The Eumundi boys started with enthusiasm but were soon over-run in attack by a well-drilled and co-ordinated Grammar outfit that exploited their dominance in the outside backs.
The boys, however, did not give up and showing Dragons determination and resolve kept their heads up and continued on.
Even though the final score was heavily in favour of the visitors, the Eumundi boys played better in the second half and ensured that Grammar did not match the number of points they scored before half time.
A feature of the game was the spirit in which it was played by both teams and the respect that was shown by all players to their team-mates and opposition players alike. The spirit of rugby is alive and well at Eumundi and at SCGS.
All players in the Eumundi team played as well as they could on the day. No-one can take that away from them or doubt their commitment.
There were, however, a couple of players who stood out. In the backs, Kaan, Latrell and Liam displayed solid defence and a hint of attack when the opposition allowed, while in the forwards Dougie, Thomas and player of the team, DT, performed extremely well.
The enthusiastic and sportsmanlike support from the Eumundi parents and friends from the sidelines helped keep the players focused.
All players and supporters at Eumundi realise that rugby, first and foremost, is a game, a contest between two teams.
UNDER 7s
The Eumundi Dragons U7s continued their winning performance this weekend against Matthew Flinders at Noosa. The whole team contributed to the fast-paced match with tries being scored at both ends of the field. In the end, the Dragons were able to cross the line just one more time to seal the victory. Special mention to the latest members of the Eumundi team – Solomon, Noah and Campbell – who all put in 100 per cent effort with great runs, lots of tags and for Solomon a try. Looking forward to this weekend’s match at Matthew Flinders. Go the Dragons!
