THE smell of liniment is in the air again, workplace tipping competitions are intensifying and the temperature is starting to drop. All that means is that the footy season has everyone excited – clubs, players, supporters and even the sponsors.
And so it is with our Noosa Pirates, who will be hosting a big round of footy this Saturday 16 May, at the Noosa District Sports Complex.
It’s the start of round four and will be the first home games for the club this season.
Four games will be on hand from 1pm and the Noosa Pirates’ committee is taking advantage of what will be one of only four opportunities to celebrate with supporters and sponsors this season.
Club secretary Lexie Mawn says the Pirates and Noosa/Gympie joint venture side, the Northern Outlaws are looking forward to finally playing in front of their home crowd.
“We’re all excited about cheering on the boys and doing our part to celebrate Women in League next Saturday,” Lexie said.
“There are so many amazing lady volunteers in our great club, so our Division 1 Northern Outlaws will be wearing the pink jerseys to celebrate all the mums, sisters, aunties, grandmas and friends who contribute to our wonderful game of rugby league.”
To add to the festivities, patrons will get a taste of $280,000 of new lights recently installed at the grounds.
“We’re very grateful for our amazing new lights, care of grants through the Jupiter’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund, Noosa Council and the Queensland Government,” Lexie said,
“Last by certainly no means least, we’re going to use these games to thank our great club sponsors for 2015.”
On Saturday, representatives from John Madill Toyota, Tewantin Noosa RSL, Hang Loosa Property Noosa, Gowan Lea Timbers, Supa IGA Pomona, Dolphin Plastics, Mark Bain Constructions, Classic Noosa Concrete Services and Always Cool Air-conditioning will all be on hand to cheer on our teams.
“It’s our way of giving a little bit back to them, because without these sponsors we simply wouldn’t be here,” Lexie said.
Gates to the Noosa District Sports Complex will open from noon. To acknowledge Women in League, there will be free entry for ladies over 18 and children, with pensioners paying $4 and $7 for every other person.
Game times:
1pm – Under-18 (Gympie Devils v Maroochydore Swans).
2.30pm – Division 2 (Gympie Devils v Maroochydore Swans).
4.15pm – Reserve Grade (Noosa Pirates v Pomona Cooran Cutters).
5.30pm – Division 1 (Northern Outlaws v Maroochydore Swans).
