MEMBER for Lilley and former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia Wayne Swan dropped into the River Deck restaurant on Saturday night to meet with Labor Party supporters.
Having served as federal treasurer for over five years, Mr Swan was invited to speak about Australia’s economy and the budget that was released on Tuesday night.
Mr Swan said the Government was “seeking permission” to introduce harsh spending by arguing Australia had a spending problem and not a revenue problem.
“This campaign to dismantle our social safety net and attacks on healthcare and education was a project of this campaign for their entire period in opposition and goes to the core of their 2014 budget language where they divided our country into lifters and leaners,” he said.
“It remains important to bring the budget back into balance in due course. But when it comes to the country’s mindset, it is surely time to hit the reboot button.”
