Noosa residents are being encouraged to put the kettle on and make their cuppa count, with registrations now open for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea 2026.
Organised by Cancer Council, the iconic fundraiser returns on Thursday 21 May, with locals able to host events anytime throughout May and June to support Australians affected by cancer.
With one Australian diagnosed with cancer approximately every five minutes – about the time it takes to enjoy a tea break – organisers say every mug raised can help fund life-saving research and vital support services.
Since the initiative began in 1993, Australians have hosted tens of thousands of morning teas, raising more than $200 million for cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs.
Cancer Council NSW Director of Marketing and Fundraising Naomi Watson said this year’s goal is to raise more than $17 million nationwide.
“We want workplaces, sporting teams, families, friends and communities to come together and help us make a difference,” she said.
From a simple catch-up with neighbours in Noosa, to a school bake sale, sports club brunch or large-scale workplace event, every morning tea contributes to funding research breakthroughs and practical support for families facing cancer.
The statistics remain sobering. Almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85. More than 169,500 Australians were diagnosed last year – an average of more than 460 people per day – and an estimated 1.4 million Australians are currently living with or have survived a cancer diagnosis.
Funds raised through Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea go towards Cancer Council’s research programs, prevention campaigns, advocacy work and support services for those navigating treatment and recovery.
Noosa community groups, local businesses and families are encouraged to register, host an event and turn a simple cuppa into a powerful force for change.
