Man charged after fatal crash in Coolum

A man has been charged following a fatal traffic crash in Coolum Beach in May this year.

Forensic Crash Investigators charged a 36-year-old Coolum Beach man on Friday 5 August with two counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or Grievous Bodily Harm and one count each of drug driving and driver failing to restrain a child under four.

Around 2.15pm on Monday 30 May, police will allege the man was driving a silver Mitsubishi Pajero southbound on the Sunshine Motorway when it collided with a Mazda CX-9 heading north.

Two three-year-old passengers were seated in the rear of the 4WD.

The boy suffered critical injuries and passed away in the Sunshine Coast University Hospital the following day.

The man and girl sustained minor injuries only.

The 38-year-old woman driver of the Mazda and a 12-year-old girl sustained serious and significant injuries and were discharged from hospital on Thursday 4 August.

A four-year-old boy from this vehicle sustained minor injuries only.

The man was granted police bail and will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday 26 August.
