With the Sunshine Coast unemployment rate at 6.8 per cent, job seekers will now have an exciting new opportunity with Suncare Community Services as the not-for-profit organisation launches more than 100 jobs on their careers’ website.
Demand for Suncare Community Services is increasing – particularly with support workers, volunteers and clinical care roles – as more people in aged care decide to stay in their homes for longer.
The Federal Government has predicted a surge in people wanting to stay in their homes, which is why Suncare Community Services is stepping up and encouraging job seekers to begin a rewarding career in the industry.
Suncare Community Services CEO Russell Mason said the launch of these jobs is a great opportunity to help our aging population but also for those who are looking for fulfilling work.
“We have more than 100 jobs across Queensland, mostly on the Sunshine Coast but also in North Brisbane, Rockhampton and the Wide Bay,” Mr Mason said.
“We have just celebrated our 50-year anniversary and we’re proud of the employees and volunteers who show up to work every day to make people’s lives better and now we’re looking for some special employees to join our team.
“Suncare Community Services values people who are dynamic, forward-focussed and genuinely builds relationships with customers, employees and stakeholders.”
Following the release of the findings of the Aged Care Royal Commission this week, the Federal Government announced $17 million to enhance oversight of the Home Care Packages Program and Ted O’Brien MP, Federal Member for Fairfax is pleased to see local providers such as Suncare Community Services actively recruiting to meet this demand.
“Since the 2018-19 Budget, the Federal Government has invested a total of $5.5 billion in new funding to deliver more than 83,000 additional home care packages,” he said.
“The more people we have delivering home care the better, not just for those who have found meaningful jobs, but for those who want and need support in their homes.”
Across the country, more than 1000 organisations hold contracts to deliver Home Care Packages and Suncare Community Services is one of those organisations.
Suncare Community Services Senior Care Coordinator Shayli Burgess said it has been a privilege working for the not-for-profit organisation, especially when you hear the incredible feedback from customers.
“They love the effort and personalised service we give them. Whether they need a chat, a coffee, a shopping companion or someone to help them surf, we’re ready to help where we can,” Ms Burgess.
“It’s a daunting experience for some people who are facing the prospect of what to do as they head into their later years in life and to make that experience welcoming is an honour.
“I get to go home every day knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life by giving them the independence and ability to stay in their home for longer.”
One in five people are deciding to access aged care while living at home, which is a surge of 74 per cent over a 10-year period.
