Can you pick a Sunshine Coast artist?

The challenge is set to see if the Sunshine Coast has its own visual language through the exhibition of 88 artists from school students to professions at Cooroy’s Butter Factory Arts Centre (BFAC).

BFAC presents four group exhibitions which include a members exhibition, Eclectica, a portrait prize, Local Heroes, and two student exhibitions, seniors and juniors, from Noosa District High School

“It’ll be fantastic to see the works of so many artists on show in the same space. All these artists, from the school students through to some of our region’s most accomplished professional artists, share the experience of living on the Sunshine Coast,” BFAC coordinator Alicia Sharples said.

“And while each show has either no theme, or a very broad one like ‘Local Heroes’, it’ll be fantastic to see if there is some sort of shared visual language between the works.

“We’d love to hear people’s response to that.”

Sunshine Coast based Archibald Prize finalist Jandamarra Cadd will judge entries in the ‘Local Heroes Portrait Prize’, and announce his chosen winner on the opening night of Eclectica and Local Heroes on Saturday 20 October from 5pm. Cigar box guitarist Paul Thorley will be performing on the night and entry is free.
