Boost Groups ignite learning literacy and numeracy

A unique educational approach has taken hold at Sunshine Beach State School (SBSS), and it’s yielding impressive results.

The initiative, known as Boost Groups, sees the school’s leadership team, including principal Alison Welch, take small groups of students under their wing for targeted, intensive literacy and numeracy support sessions.

This school-based program is changing the way students engage with their learning, fostering enthusiasm and delivering outstanding outcomes.

Boost Groups is a program where the members of the leadership team including the principal, deputy principals, and head of curriculum take a hands-on approach to support students who either require additional assistance or benefit from extension activities in literacy or numeracy.

These small groups of students meet weekly for personalised, intensive sessions that target their specific needs.

The impact of this initiative is remarkable, with students showing significant improvement in their literacy and numeracy skills.

Principal Alison Welch shared her thoughts on the program, “At SBSS, we are committed to ensuring every child reaches their full potential.“

“The Boost Groups initiative allows us to work closely with our students and address their individual needs, helping them build a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy. It’s been a wonderful experience to see our students grow and flourish through this program.“

One key element that sets Boost Groups apart is the unique opportunity for students to work directly with the school’s leadership team.

This personal involvement of the principal and deputy principals has a profound impact on the students, making them feel supported and valued.

The program has created an environment of trust and enthusiasm, where students eagerly look forward to their sessions with the school’s leaders.

For many, it’s a chance to form strong bonds and develop a positive connection with the school’s leadership. Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the personalised support and the opportunity to learn from their school’s leaders.

Students’ interest in learning has soared, and their confidence in tackling literacy and numeracy challenges has grown substantially.

The Boost Groups program has not only improved their academic performance but also fostered a love for learning.’ The success of ’Boost Groups’ can be attributed to the collaborative approach taken by SBSS’s leadership team.

Principal Alison Welch and the deputy principals work alongside teachers and support staff to ensure that each student’s needs are met effectively. This cooperation between leadership and support staff creates a cohesive and supportive learning environment.

For the students involved in ’Boost Groups,’ the program is not just about improving literacy and numeracy; it’s about building a strong foundation for their educational journey.

The small group setting allows for individualised attention, which can be a game-changer for students who may require additional support to excel. The collaborative approach between leadership, teachers, and support staff demonstrates SBSS’s commitment to providing a holistic education that nurtures every child’s potential.
