School’s student scientists shine with Street Science

Sunshine Beach State School’s Year 6 students recently embarked on a scientific journey courtesy of the acclaimed Street Science team.

Through engaging hands-on activities, the students delved into the realms of energy including the energy change process as it undergoes a stunning metamorphosis into a spectacular visual display, and polymers, exploring chemistry in action by comparing chemical reactions with changing variables.

With a blend of science and education backgrounds, the Street Science team delivers captivating science shows that blend humour, exciting demonstrations, and age-appropriate explanations, creating an interactive experience that resonates with students of all ages.

In recognition of their dedication to science education, Street Science was honoured with the Champion Children’s Educational Services award at the 2023 Small Business Champion ceremony, solidifying their status as industry leaders in science education.

Year 6 teacher, Amanda Brown, emphasised the invaluable role of Street Science in enhancing science learning opportunities at Sunshine Beach State School.

The students, she noted, are consistently elated and engaged by the hands-on nature of Street Science activities and their ability to ignite curiosity and excitement about the wonders of science.

Year 6 environmental student leader, Huon, expressed his enthusiasm for the educational experiences provided by Street Science, highlighting the program’s contribution to fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts among students.

Having parents who are involved in science, Huon is a keen advocate for the world of science to become an ongoing interest for every student.

Principal Alison Welch commended the impact of Street Science as one of the initiatives enriching the school’s science curriculum, emphasising the importance of providing students with dynamic and immersive learning experiences that instill a lifelong passion for science.
