Noosa Council in partnership with the Kin Kin Bushcare Group is holding a National Tree Day planting event at Kin Kin on 30 July from 8am to 12pm.
The project aims to bring the community together to contribute to providing habitat opportunities for local flora and fauna and improving water quality in the Noosa River.
Environmental operations coordinator Michael Lyons said this year’s project would look to enhance an area adjacent to Kin Kin Creek that was historically cleared for agriculture.
“This site has been under restoration for the last 20 years and is home to an endangered rainforest vegetation community and is part of the Noosa River catchment,” he said.
“National Tree Day is a great opportunity for our community to come together and make a positive impact on our environment by creating a greener future for our beautiful region,” Mr Lyons said.
The annual event has grown significantly over the past five years, with a doubling of the number of trees planted. This year the aim is to plant 1000 plants.
“Everyone is welcome. Kids also enjoy being part of this event that has resulted in more than 22 million trees being planted since its launch by Planet Ark in 1996.
“Get your hands dirty and leave a legacy,” added Mr Lyons.
Morning tea will be provided on the day and the team from VIP Wildlife will be there providing close encounters with some Australian reptiles and insects.
Anyone coming along is encouraged to wear enclosed shoes and a hat. All other tools and equipment are provided.
