The Main Beach Reserve car park, next to Noosa Surf Club, will be closed to all public traffic from 1am on New Year’s Eve, to support Queensland Police and emergency services.

Noosa Council Director of Infrastructure Services Shaun Walsh said the temporary closure was necessary to provide additional dedicated spaces and clear access for Police and emergency services to respond effectively when needed.

“We’re expecting crowds of people in the Hastings Street precinct on New Year’s Eve, so it’s imperative that Police and emergency services vehicles and personnel have uninterrupted access to the Main Beach car park to enable them to respond quickly and easily to any emergencies,” Mr Walsh said.

“This is about ensuring the highest level of public safety possible in what will be an extremely busy area.”

From 6:30am on Thursday January 1, the Main Beach Reserve car park will return to a temporary two-lane drop-off zone, to assist motorists and visitors coming in and out of the area.

“This drop-off zone in the Main Beach Reserve car park has been in effect since December 20 and will remain in place until January 6. It has been working well to help alleviate some of the traffic congestion in this area during what is the busiest time of the year,” Mr Walsh said.

“Traffic marshals will continue to operate in the drop-off zone between 6:30am and 5:30pm to assist motorists and visitors coming in and out of this area. The drop-off zone has a storage area for bicycles and other items.

“This reflects our ongoing commitment to making Hastings Street and Main Beach safer, more efficient and more enjoyable for everyone.”

Overflow car parking will continue to be available at the Noosa Heads Bowls Club and the traditional Lions Car Park will remain in operation until January 6.

In addition to the temporary traffic measures, Council’s free Go Noosa holiday buses will continue to operate until January 27, 2025.

More bus stops have been added to the free bus loop route and free park-and-ride services are available at the Noosa AFL grounds until 27 January 2025.
