Raising awareness of prostate cancer

The third annual Noosa Prostate Association cancer awareness lunch held last week at Noosa Surf Club was hailed a success with about 300 guests in attendance.

Laguna Real Estate was front and centre assisting in the auction event which helped raise $230,000. Funding raised from this event helps in promoting awareness, regular testing for early diagnosis and treatment and also helps to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Guests were treated to a three-course meal, entertainment from Steve Haddan and comedian Paul Martell as well as informative speeches on Prostate Cancer, hospital care and the importance of regular testing from Justin Greenwell, chief executive officer of Sunshine Coast Ramsay Hospital Network, urologist Dr Stuart Collins and Professor Stuart Collins from the Chief of Mission and Head of Research Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The annual event was set up by a number of Noosa men who had been impacted by the disease or who knew someone suffering from it and wanted to help.

This event could not have gone ahead without the help from their sponsors being Ramsay Health Care, Ogilvie Group, John Madill Toyota, Mt Mulligan Lodge, Bedarra Resort, Livelife Pharmacy, Laguna Real Estate, Noosa Heads Surf Lifesaving Supporters Club, Surf Club restaurant, Jive Art, Isabella’s Fine & Antique Jewellery, Spicers Retreats, First Class Functions, Bluetone Systems Integration, Dore & Webb Lawyers, Stewart Wood, Earle & Penny Bailey and Peter Thynne.

The Noosa Prostate Association raised money through sponsorships, ticket sales, raffle tickets, donations and auction items. This year’s endeavours have resulted in the Noosa Prostate Association raising $480,000 to date – an outstanding achievement.

There are 24,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer annually in Australia with more than 3500 men dying of the disease.
