Thursday Girls are back in action

Thursday Girls: Committee members Dorothy Maloney, Liz Meikle, Di Kirby, Barbara Harris, Carol Donovan and Sally Page.

THE Thursday Girls held their first fund-raiser for the year and it was a sell-out with over 60 ladies attending the event.
The local charity group, comprising of six committee members, rally local women together once a month to raise much-needed funds for disadvantaged children in the Shire.
The group formed over four years ago and have since raised money for the Katie Rose Cottage and have supported students from over nine local schools through the Education Support Program.
Thursday Girls committee member Dorothy Maloney said the program aims to ensure all students have equal access to education, sport, art and music by subsiding costs for children who often miss out due to financial issues.
“To date, activities subsidised have included school uniforms, school camps, swimming lessons, student resource schemes, laptop take-home programs, life education and school music lessons,” Ms Maloney said.
“The program started in March 2014 and to the end of 2015 we have assisted 156 students with grants totalling just over $20,000.”
Ms Maloney said fund-raising was very rewarding and the group was often thanked by parents and students.
“We get many very sincere thank you notes from parents and students that have been helped by the program and in turn the ladies that attend our monthly functions feel a genuine part of the fact that we are helping the formation of our next generation,” she said.
Fund raising functions are held the last Thursday of the month between February and November in the form of luncheons at local restaurants.
“We are always looking for new interest as the list of requests are becoming more prevalent and we need to be able to help everybody if we can,” Ms Maloney said.
The next function will be held on 31 March at the Nalu Lounge, South Pacific, Weyba Road, Noosaville. If you would like to attend, please email brian.dianne2@bigpond.com or phone 5474 1184.
