Better tourist access in the works

Drive with care as the road upgrade gets underway along Eumundi-Noosa Road.

MOTORISTS travelling in and out of Noosa will benefit from a $2.5 million program to smooth the main access road connecting the renowned Sunshine Coast tourist and shopping area with Noosa.
Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said Eumundi-Noosa Road was being resurfaced between Grays and Justin roads, as part of a project which also includes a new dedicated right-turn lane into Beddington Road.
“Local motorists share Eumundi-Noosa Road with 12,000 vehicles every day so they need safer and better access to their local roads,” he said.
“This is a high priority and it’s being delivered by adjusting line markings at the intersection, so there can be a dedicated right-turning lane into Beddington Road, separating traffic travelling straight along Eumundi-Noosa Road from motorists waiting to turn into local streets.”
Works started in May 2015 to repair the road and improve drainage along Eumundi-Noosa Road and the main works are likely to be completed in mid-July.
Noosa MP Glen Elmes announced the works in November last year after having secured the funds from the State Government.
At the time of the announcement, Mr Elmes said he had been fighting for the road $2.5 million road upgrade since 2007.
“I thank the Minister for Transport, Scott Emerson, and the Newman LNP Government for recognising the importance of this arterial road to the Noosa community and sourcing the necessary funds from his road works budget,” he said at the time.
