Grand final action hots up

The GLSC Under 14-Under 16 Grand Final team.

By ANITA ANDERSON

WITH the mercury rising the only thing to match the searing heat was the hot action on the playing fields in the junior touch footy grand final day last Saturday.
In really tough conditions, the juniors put in an incredible effort to end the season on a high with awesome games all afternoon. Family, friends and supporters were on hand to witness some great touch being played in good spirit and with great sportsmanship.
First up for the afternoon our Under 10s got the ball rolling with some thrilling games. As the final siren sounded, the two Under 10 boys games were locked up with drawn score cards of 5-all on both fields.
In what was probably a first for these young stars the ‘drop off’ came into play to determine the results, with both games getting down to three players against three players.
With exhaustion from the heat and the added playing minutes Amigos were triumphant against GSLC and Cooroy scored the winning touchdown against Dancers.
In the Under 10 girls division Sunshine Beach Girls and Purple Strikers were involved a tight tussle. Fire Girls and GSLC also played an entertaining match with Fire Girls taking out the game. In the final Under 10 match Pink Thunder were too strong for GSLC (boys) with both teams crossing the try line for some great touchdowns.
In the Under 12 division Ryanos dug deep and pushed Flaming Piggies for the entire game but the Flaming Piggies took every opportunity to finish off an impressive season on top. In a battle that went down to the wire and was filled with end to end action Banana Splits just held on over Warriors. There was a three way decider between Tewantin, Sunshine Rippers and The Sun Setters.
Season frontrunners SBSHS produced yet another polished performance against GSLC. Even with a never-give-up attitude from the GSLC girls, a disciplined whole game effort from the SBSHS team saw them take the Under 14/16 girls A Grade title.
There were three close encounters in the Under 14/16 boys division to conclude the afternoon. GSLC came in a close second against a committed NDSHS 7/8s. After a slow start, NDSHS 15s got themselves back into the match against Dodgers but the Dodgers boys made a late charge to take the game.
Match of the day belonged to Baz and GSLC (2) to take the Under 14/16 A division.

Also thanks to all of our players, coaches, managers, supporters and local schools for your continued support and growth of our game.
