Labor’s Denham runs for council

FORMER State Election candidate and Labor party member Mark Denham has announced he will run in the 2016 council elections.
Mr Denham made the announcement at the Noosa ALP annual Black and White Gala Dinner held at the Waterfront Restaurant on Saturday 28 November.
In a statement to the media, Mr Denham said he believed he was “up for the challenge”.
“I am committed to my community and the desire to see local people and businesses prosper and grow,” he said.
“I believe a council that has balanced representation will operate in the best interest of the whole community.”
Mr Denham, who spoke at the Gala dinner alongside Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, said he would work with the state and federal governments to ensure Noosa received “its fair share of available revenue”.
“I believe the ratepayers deserve a more balanced and proactive community approach to ensure services the council is responsible for are efficient, effective and fiscally sound (and) that existing infrastructure is maintained appropriately and improved in a timelier manner,” he said.
“I want to ensure new infrastructure projects look towards the future and allow for community growth, not just the here and now.”
Mr Denham said he believed honesty was an important attribute in a council.
“I am a Labor person with Labor values,” he said. “I believe in equal opportunity for everyone and want to work as a team with other councillors to bring a fresh and balanced view of what our community can achieve.”
Mr Denham joins fellow council candidates Cr Joe Jurisevic, Cr Frank Pardon, Cr Frank Wilkie, Cr Sandy Bolton, Brian Stockwell, Aaron White and the only mayoral candidate at this stage, Cr Tony Wellington, in the race for the 2016 council elections.
