Community day to restore bushland

A community planting day will take place on Saturday, April 5 to begin the restoration of riparian bushland at Noosaville.

Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes, said the Weyba Creek Bushcare Group, supported by Noosa Council, Noosa Landcare and Noosa Integrated Catchment Association Inc, had successfully secured a grant of $19,565 for the project through the Queensland Government’s Everyone’s Environment program. Mr Elmes said volunteers are being sought to assist with the project. “There will be 15 working bees over the next 18 months to manually remove and chemically treat a range of weeds from bushland around the Weyba Creek and Weyba Esplanade,” Mr Elmes said. “It is expected that around 90 cubic metres of weeds will be removed or treated. “I know the people of Noosa take great pride in the natural environment and I encourage everyone who can spare an hour or two next Saturday morning to get involved in this fantastic local project. Just contact Wendy May on 0419 377 423 for further details.”
