A 33-year-old Kin Kin man appeared in Brisbane Magistrates’ court on Monday charged with the murder and torture of his two-year-old son.
Shane Pursell Akehurst faces one count of murder, five counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of torture after his son died on Friday night in Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
Police will allege the attacks took place in Akehurst’s Kin Kin home, where his son was subjected to numerous acts of violence since December last year.
Further charges have not been ruled out for the man, who remains in custody.
