SKIRTS versus Shirts last Wednesday proved a very successful afternoon. The Shirt teams took the honours in the first set of 12 x two-bowl triples, 63 to 34 and although the ladies rallied and won the second set of 12 games 52 to 48 it was not enough points to give them the overall win. Shirts 111 d Skirts 86. Better luck next time ladies.
Friday twilight bowls was very pleasant under the cloud cover. Winners were Chris Wilson and Bill Alford; runners-up Desley O’Neill and Norm Walmsley. Jackpot was won by Col Carruthers and Charlie Dewhirst.
Twilight bowls will be held on Thursday afternoon, commencing at 4pm due to Easter Friday. Make sure to put your name on the board.
Saturday afternoon’s final of the men’s A Grade championship between Bill Alford and Lorry Axiak – what a great game of bowls. Bill led right from the first end playing some beautiful draw bowls while Lorry was a slow starter. Just over half way through the game, down poured the rain causing a 10-minute break.
Lorry came out fighting and came close to catching Bill. However Bill was not to be denied the championship and dug his heels in to win 25-17. Congratulations to Bill our new club champ.
On Sunday was the feudal match between Pomona Mountain Men and Tewantin-Noosa River Men. While they were close games, the Mountain Men kept their calm and won four rinks for a total overall aggregate of 26 points. Well done Mountain Men, you also looked great in their brand new shirts. Thanks Tina for all your work.

Tewantin Noosa Bowls
NO doubt we are all looking forward to some cooler weather for the great outdoors.
Tuesday ladies ‘nominated’ fours: Winners were Joan Pyers, Kerry Wilson and Mary Ross; Runners-up were Evelyn Coghlan, Heather Birt and Margaret Dodd.
Wednesday men’s pairs: Winners were Tony Howard and Bob Mulvogue (2+26); runners-up were Lloyd Cairns and Alex Douglas (1 + 14 ‘on a countback’). The jackpot of $275 was not won and carries over.
Thursday night’s twilight (6-9) open pairs: Winners were Scott Roney and Tony McAnelly; runners-up were Kerry Wilson and Robyn McAnelly.
‘Friendly Friday’ open triples: Winners were Peter Sprately, Geoff Glynn and Ivan Ivanusec; runners-up were Connie Johnston, Val Reinicke and Peter Larke. The Jackpot of $250 was won by teams Sinclair and Grott.
Due to Easter, our Friday bowls will be played on Thursday this week and ‘Open’ pairs on Saturday.

Noosa Heads Bowls
A BUS-LOAD of our top lady bowlers, and supporters, headed off to Tweed Heads last weekend for the finals of this year’s Super Challenge series. Noosa got two sides into the top eight but didn’t quite get to the Sunday grand final of the Bronze division. Section 8 went down to Swifts from Ipswich in the Saturday morning quarter-final, while the Section 5 girls had a good win over Tugun. In the afternoon semi they were drawn to play Swifts, and went agonisingly close, having a draw in the fours match and going down by five in the triples. A great effort by our small club, and a good excuse to break out the champers.
Last Tuesday men’s pairs winners were Steve Curry and David Deane. Runners-up prize went to Bill Burkitt and Peter Gale.The top triples team on Wednesday was Cath Haddock, Fran Coules and Tricia Parker.
Open jackpot pairs on Friday saw a win to Ralphe Rickman and John Boyle, with Geoff Lewis and Judith Boakes the winners of the first-round losers section.
Saturday triples winners were Roy Cornish, Ray Day and Juleen Mayze.
The April edition of the popular Noosa 1500 Open Pairs will be played on Easter Monday, and this will be the last edition of this event which has been such a success since it began in February 2013.
This year’s Golden Bowl, an evening to celebrate the end of the Super Challenge season, is set down for Saturday 11 April.
And a reminder that Garyth Day, a benefit bowls day for the ailing Garyth Williams, will be held on Saturday 18 April.

Cooroy Bowls
A VERY busy week of bowls was had this week. The ladies had their final match in the Hinterland Challenge against leaders Mapleton. The rain stopped play stopped play for about half an hour but this didn’t dampen the spirits of both teams. Two very enjoyable games were played with Mapleton the victors.
Tuesday jackpot pairs were down in numbers last week. Roy Wall and Jack Kirkman were the winners with +23.
Business bowls winners were Newbies, SEC, Getting Plastered, Mutineers, Oddballs, pages, Belvedere and Jacobsons.
In the High Rollers challenge, JeLS had a very tough match against the Honey Pots on Thursday night only winning by a few points. New team INCAS had their first win against Rob and Co. Bushrangers had a narrow win (1 point) against 101s who had three substitute players. Other winners included Tag Team, Night Owls, High Rollers and Royal Flush.
The first round of the A Grade championships was held on Sunday morning. David Hateley-James, Bevan Mahoney and Lynne Hateley-James go through to the next round.
