KIN Kin residents can look forward to better phone reception thanks to the Federal Government’s $100 million Mobile Black Spot Program.
Noosa mayor Noel Playford has welcomed the inclusion of the hinterland town that is set to gain a new mobile phone base station in the first round of the program.
Cr Playford said Noosa Council and the local community put Kin Kin’s case for mobile phone infrastructure to the government in response to calls from the community.
“For the sake of Kin Kin’s economic prosperity and for the safety of our residents during severe weather I’m pleased to say the Federal Government has answered the call,“ Cr Playford said.
“Residents will join with me in thanking our Federal Member Warren Truss for his support in also supporting the submission.”
Cr Playford said the funding will not only assist Kin Kin’s home-based business operators, but deliver a vital lifeline during flooding, which could completely isolate the town.
“I’m sure the many tourists who visit Kin Kin annually will also welcome the capacity for mobile internet and phone access, enabling quick access to online maps and helpful information about the local community,” he said.
Kin Kin is among 68 Queensland locations to receive mobile phone base stations in the first round of the Mobile Black Spot Program.
Cr Playford said the council would provide any in-kind support necessary to assist with the base station’s establishment.
