THE Mermaid with a Message is on her way to Noosa after a gruelling 1000km paddle from Newcastle to our very own Main Beach.
Athlete, teacher, surfer and lifeguard Juliana Bahr Thomson, 28, is taking on the paddling challenge on a knee-type paddle board to raise awareness for the Surfrider Foundation and White Ribbon and start a conversation about issues such as domestic violence and ocean conservation.
Noosa is the final destination of the 43-day paddle for Juliana, also known as the Mermaid with a Message, who is also hoping the paddle will earn her a spot in the Guinness World Records.
Juliana left Newcastle on 26 June and has since travelled up the coast navigating waters around the Gold Coast and Stradbroke Island as well as trying to avoid sharks, whales and windy conditions before arriving at Noosa Main Beach on Sunday 7 August.
Anyone who wants to see Juliana arrive at Noosa Main Beach can expect to see her come to shore between 12.30pm and 2pm, depending on the day’s weather conditions. Her support crew will be on hand to welcome Juliana to Noosa and the local community is encouraged to join in the celebrations on the day.
