Keeping business local

By JONATHON HOWARD

HARVEY Norman Noosaville was bustling with members of the Noosaville Business Association’s (NBA) business after 5pm networking meeting recently.
NBA president and Sorroco Noosa business owner Andy Slavin said the current message was local businesses supporting local business.
“It’s really about a social and support network for local businesses to pool ideas and find ways to work together to improve local business now and into the future,” he said.
Mr Slavin said Noosaville has the largest concentration of businesses in the Noosa region and the northern Sunshine Coast, with only Maroochydore rivalling it.
“A good example of local businesses assisting Noosaville is the announcement for the first River Race held by Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club,” he said.
“We’ve also got a lot more coming up with the markets along Thomas Street (expected to start in October) and free Starry Nights Outdoor Movies down on the river from 11 October at Lions Park.”
The Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club will present the first River Race in Noosa on Sunday 12 October, with the first marathon regatta of the 2014-’15 season.
The safe waters of Noosa River and canals will challenge the experienced and provide novice paddlers and steerers an opportunity to improve their skills.
Races start from near Chaplin Park, next to Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club, Gympie Terrace, Noosaville, and head downstream towards the river mouth. There will be women’s, men’s and mixed 8km short course races; junior and minnows short course races; 12km long course races and a V12 fun race.
Outrigger teams will join a friendly morning paddle through the Noosa Bar (conditions permitting) and around Laguna Bay from 7am to 9am.
Meanwhile, Harvey Norman head office has expressed a keen interest in becoming more involved with the NBA’s future – with a focus on the local businesses.
