Ladies’ Fiesta draws them in

COOROY BOWLS
WHAT a great week at Cooroy Community Bowls Club. The Ladies’ Fiesta was a wonderful success with teams attending from far and wide. The Tewantin team were the overall winners with Albert coming in as runners-up, while the Cooroy 1 team took the mystery prize.
The McGrath Family Day which was an annual event for many years, and was resurrected, has been a great success with 10 teams playing. Much fun and frivolity was had by all and the winners went home with good prizes. Thanks needs to go to the McGrath Family and their loved ones for putting on a fabulous afternoon of bowls and fun. Many teams vowed to return next year!
The mixed fours championships saw neck-and-neck ends down to the last bowl. Eric Kenzler once again skilfully played the winning bowl by taking the jack and giving his team of; himself, wife Helen and old buddies Sandra and Ben French the winning points. Commiserations need to go to the McGrath family team but it was a wonderful match by all accounts.
101’s remain the only team which is undefeated so they sit on the top of the ladder in the High Roller’s Challenge. JeLS, BAM and Kybong Kids sit on equal second place. High Rollers had a win this week.
The Tuesday afternoon challenge was won by Russell Butler, Ken Smith and Noel Gilvarrey.

NOOSA HEADS BOWLS
UPCOMING all-day events at Noosa Heads include the monthly open pairs 1500, scheduled for this Monday (6 October), and the Laguna Mixed Medley to be played on Thursday 30 October. Teams for that will be of two men and two women who will play pairs games and mixed fours. There is good prize money on offer, and entry forms are out now. The nomination fee is $80 per team, which includes lunch.
The finalists have been decided for the club championship fours with team Deane due to do battle against team Lloyd this Saturday. The draw is out for the ladies’ consistency championship with the first matches to be played this week.
In regular games, Tuesday pairs went to Roy Cornish and John Scruton, who had the highest winning margin, with Paul Rieck and Neville Craig runners-up. Gill MacDonald and Carol Studley were Wednesday ladies’ winners over Carol Coole and Valerie Bush. The Wednesday jackpot has not gone off for many weeks and has built up to a handy sum.
Friday open pairs winners were Et Kellett and Bruno Zigliotto. The consolation prize went to Ian and Thelma Sanday.
Lists have been posted for bowlers interested in the district night pennant series and next summer’s super challenge competition.

TEWANTIN NOOSA BOWLS
ON SUNDAY 21 September the club hosted Bribie Island bowlers with 64 players taking part in triples and other team numbers to ensure all played and had a great day. Rain failed to dampen the enjoyable day. A great lunch and after-game nibbles were provided by the bistro. Thanks to all who arranged and helped to make this event a success, fun days like this ensure great friendships between bowling clubs
