Noosa seat: hot contest

By JONATHON HOWARD

CAMPAIGNING for the 2015 State Government seat of Noosa is about to get underway, as recent news poll results show a slight swing back towards incumbents after an early moderate swing towards Independents – and predictions are for a close battle between LNP and Labor.
Noosa Today can reveal the Palmer United Party will be announcing its candidate to run for the seat of Noosa soon and Katter’s Australia Party was also expected to announce its candidate in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Family First Party could not confirm or deny whether it would stand a candidate for Noosa early next year.
Incumbent and LNP member Glen Elmes, won the seat of Noosa with a majority of 60.9 per cent of the vote in 2012, however the political landscape has shifted since then and the unpopularity of Premier Campbell Newman could have damaging carry-on effects.
Political analysts are predicting a close battle with heavy emphasis on campaigning as each vote will be worth fighting for.
To find out more about Noosa’s local candidates, Noosa Today asked LNP incumbent Glen Elmes, ALP candidate Mark Denham and Greens candidate Joe Shlegeris to give readers an insight into their campaign initiatives and battle plans.
Mr Shlegeris is a passionate Greens member and relative newcomer to the seat of Noosa.
He brings a wealth of knowledge in the business and finance sectors and has received much support from local business owners.
And let’s not forget ALP candidate Mark Denham who works tirelessly everyday as a paramedic on the front line of Noosa’s health system.
Mr Denham has been a passionate member of the Noosa community for many years and has taken a tilt at politics in order to strengthen some of the core community values which he believes have been weakened by LNP.
