New canvas – the human body

The 2017 Australian Body Art Festival is taking place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 April in the Noosa Hinterland town of Cooroy at Mill Place. With a competition theme this year of “Wonderland” it will provide an absolute wealth of inspiration for artists and a Wonderland of activity and fun for everyone!
As Australia’s premier body art event, the festival is a colourful and creative experience for all ages, and offers a unique free weekend of activities.
The event is renowned as ‘A Festival of Colour’ showcasing a variety of interesting art forms.
As the event name suggests, the Australian Body Art Festival is centred on competitions in temporary body painting in the categories of brush and sponge, airbrush, special effects and face painting.
For members of the public, it’s an event like nothing ever seen before, as human canvases take shape during the competitions.
All types of artists participate including not just experienced body and make-up artists but graphic artists, visual artists and street artists – they simply use their artistic flair to work on a very different canvas … the human body!
And it’s not just body art competitions. The festival also hosts a Wearable Art Competition and parades with funky fashions made from recycled treasures.
There are top class performers like The Cherry Ripes and Let’s Dance Latin-Samba, drumming workshops by The Off Beat and quirky art installations.
There will also be a wonderful selection of market stalls with artistic offerings on sale and some delectable food stalls.
The festival will also include a free Saturday Soiree giving the opportunity to mix with artists, models and other festival goers with entertainment, coloured holi powder area and a licenced bar.
Visit the website www.australianbodyart.com.au for more information or Facebook @AustralianBodyArtFestival.
