Special visit from paralympians

Sunshine Beach State School students were treated to a special visit last week by paralympian swimmers Daniel Fox and Jacob Templeton.
The athletes who are participants in the Queensland Academy of Sport QAS4Schools initiative visited the school to speak about the rewards of physical activity and reaching for a goal.
Daniel, an intellectually impaired athlete from Cleveland, won silver in the London 2012 Paralympics, gold in the 2014 Glascow Commonwealth Games in the 200m freestyle, bronze in the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and will compete in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Jacob, who is legally blind, competed in five events at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.
Both swimmers shared their stories about starting out in the sport and the direction it has taken them. They encouraged the students to set goals and emphasised the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity.
Teacher Vanessa Flint said the visit had been a thrill for the students.
“These young men came with a positive message for our students about applying a growth mindset to all they do and never giving up when working to achieve their goals,” she said.
